Faulty Serological Blood Tests for Lyme Disease Are Harming People

While a diagnosis Lyme Disease should be based upon Clinical Symptoms, most Physicians today are requiring a positive blood test before providing treatment. There is significant scientific evidence proving the two-tier blood test for Lyme Disease is inconsistent and inaccurate. Imprecise results are leading to wrongful diagnoses and/or delayed diagnoses, which greatly increases the severity of illness and human suffering. In my previous post I give a detailed background on Borrelia Burgdorferi persister cells and why many researchers now feel the only way to eradicate Late Stage (disseminated) or persistent Lyme Disease (PTLDS) is through the use of multi-drug combinations like they do for Tuberculosis and Leprosy.

Lyme Disease: How The Lymphatic System, Humoral Immunity, Collagen, and Decorin Binding are Interconnected.

I started researching Tick-Borne Diseases in 2012 after my daughter came down with a mysterious illness and went a year before we received a diagnosis Ehrlichia Chaffeensis, Lyme and Co-infections  (her story here). I read on average 1-5 peer reviewed studies and/or Journal articles per week. Why? Because my daughter did not get better after 4 weeks on Doxycyline; the Medical Field is largely ignoring the 10-20% of patients with lingering symptoms following standard treatment for Lyme; and because I, like so many others, have fallen into the Search Engine Rabbit Hole while looking for a cure.

Four Stages of Lyme Disease: Borrelia burgdorferi

Lyme Disease is a vector borne illness caused by Borrelia Burgdorferi(Bb) a spirochete which is passed on to humans primarily by infected ticks. There are 21 known species of Borrelia and 3 genotypes of B.burgdorferi.  Ticks are small arachnids and can carry numerous bacteria, viruses and protozoa such as Rickettsia, Bartonella, Ehrlichia chaffeensis, and Babesia. The tick has a two year life cycle, going from larva to nymph to adult, requiring blood at each stage. Many bites occur during the nymph phase. The typical nymph is about the size of a poppy seed.
